Subject:MASS DMV
Time:03:16 pm
Okay
I'm really sick of calling the Mass state DMV, or for that matter, any fucking place lately, and being put on hold with a patronizing message stating that "[they] are experiencing heightened call volumes, and apologize for the delay. Your call is important to us"

IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING HEAVY CALL VOLUME EVERY TIME I FUCKING CALL, SOMETHING TELLS ME YOU SHOULD INVEST IN SOME MORE CALL CENTER EMPLOYEES SO I DON'T HAVE TO WAIT 30 MINUTES WITH SHIT MUSIC AND BE PATRONIZED WITH YOUR PRE-RECORDED DISARMING STATEMENTS EVERY TIME. You inconsiderate bastards make me feel like a fucking idiot sitting and waiting around while having the same fucking message repeated OVER AND OVER. We have the technology. Say it once. Or fuck, don't say it at all. I don't want your reasons or excuses I want someone to answer the fucking phone without me having to sit around for 30 minutes prior. FUCK.

So when will this country stop doing shit overseas that requires the rest of the homeland to stay and desperately attempt to hold together the status quo? We can't move forward with anything because this war keeps dragging us back economically. Privately and as a nation. The percentage of the budget dedicated to this stupid war grows every year and more domestic programs see cuts or unrealistic projected cuts and freezes... Mr. fucking balanced budget in 2012, fuck you! You're expecting to see a DECREASE in the amount of casualties from this stupid conflict? Not even remotely close to what's predicted. Not even close. Not even, in the most optimistic sense, possible. Casualties expected to increase by many percents. Not decrease. We're talking 20%, 30%. You're talking cutting by 1%, 2%, freezing budgets. What are you going to do with all these deformed fucking soldiers pouring back here by the thousands? What about the brain injuries, eyesight loss, hearing loss, loss of limbs, loss of internal organs, what about these things? Will they somehow pay for themselves? Do you secretly have tens of thousands of arms growing off the backs of mice somewhere that will magically float in by night and sew themselves onto these veterans so that they don't have to collect their disability checks? Or are you planning to just not give them these checks, the checks they basically went to war for, because they don't believe in this shit and quite obviously knew they would get injured? Because of this economic slump. Because of this fucking "Unites States of Nepotism" attitude going on here. I'm not being naive, I know that shit has always been around, but this era has been especially sickening. I used to raise an eyebrow when I heard people calling the Bush administration and their entire extended corporate family Nazis, but now I'm feeling that the language is relevant and quite possibly the only thing strong enough to get the fucking point across. Hands in pockets on hands in pockets; all over the place. Too much cash. Too little heart. So much deception. Tearing the world apart. Consistently placing monetary value over ethical behavior, over the right NOT to be manipulated; the right not to be advertised to by way of playing on my subconscious. The right NOT to be denied alternatives that are better for everyone for the - wait, maybe we forgot about this word since the last time we used it, in the framework for our governmental institutions - the common good, because private profits and money > the common good.

I feel like there is a juggernaut building in size at an exponential rate, every day growing bigger, stronger, harder to stop. But it will never be unstoppable. In fact, it will stop itself. (Just not before making life miserable for everyone in its way in the mean time.)

Subject:Boston sucks hard
Time:07:38 pm
Current Mood:aggravatedaggravated
I thought this place sucked because it doesn't really have any avenues lined with bars and eateries, and no real social gathering spots that don't involve freezing your ass off while being watched by mounted police who's horses are shitting on your picnic blanket, but I was wrong. Boston now sucks for so many more reasons.

In addition to tunnels collapsing on people and killing them, and in addition to the subsequent months long re-closure of those long-awaited tunnels to fix the busted ceilings and shit, they are hiking the T fares - across the board. Last time, which was only about a year ago, the buses went relatively unharmed: a mere 15 cent increase in fare, bringing the total to $.90. That's better than most cities; however, when they hiked the fare, they cut the suburban bus routes (goodbye all you low-income urban workers trying to save cash by living in the suburbs - as if your murderous commute on the inhibited and overworked bus routes weren't enough) AND eliminated night owl buses, dropping Boston's "transportation rating" to the lowest in the nation - below fucking ATLANTA for Christ's sake. As if it wasn't bad enough that the subway only ran until 12:30 (still does), they had to take away the buses that ran until a mere 2am and then charge us more to use any part of the system. LAME.

Now, a scant year later, the rates are rising again, and this time not so modestly: the T will jump from 1.25 to 1.70 and the buses will rise from .90 to 1.25 - and that's only if you have a "CharlieCard", a reloadable plastic card that tracks where you've been and whatnot. 1: way to create another way of wasting petroleum 2: way to screw everyone who forgets to reload their card/forgets it at home. If you don't have a CharlieCard, you have to pay 2.00 for a subway ride and 1.50 for a bus ride. There have been no extension of any transportation lines, no extension of hours, no addition of bus routes nor very many new buses, very few new T cars save for the green line, oh, and the free outbound service after the T comes above ground? Gone. And you can't get a transfer for a bus if you pay with cash - only if you have a CharlieCard.

If the MBTA doesn't announce some kind of improvement to the public transportation system within the next year, I'm going to lose my mind. The T needs to run all night, or at least until 2 or 3am. This 12:30 curfew shit is killing any hopes of upward movement for this city - unless you're a taxi driver.

Subject:Learning JS, gallery won't work
Time:05:16 pm
Hi everyone!

Thanks in advance for any help with this. I'm learning JS right now (I usually deal with php) and I think I'm getting the hang of it. The only problem is that I used a script out of the book I'm learning it from to see if I could get it right, and the script doesn't work. Of course, since I'm just learning, I can't really debug it too much... anyone have any ideas?

CNN Breaking News:

- Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is stepping down, sources tell CNN.

dsfokuashdflkasdhflasdfiasdf I can hardly contain my excitement! Now as long as they don't appoint some other ass-tard to his position...

Quite possible the best thing about this whole ordeal is that confirming a new Secretary would involve having trials regarding the Iraq war and the circumstances leading up to the start of it (as well as conduct up until today). Ha-fucking-ha, there's that can of worms no one wanted to pierce, and look! NOW IT'S OPEN BITCHES!

Subject:Worth what?
Time:05:44 pm
Current Mood:sadsad
"One mellow evening in Gallipolis, Guy Zierk and Kelly Koby were married on a green lawn near the fast-flowing Ohio River. He wore his Marine uniform, and she wore a grand white dress. Together they passed beneath the raised swords of 10 Lima Company Marines, warriors home from Iraq.

They entertained their guests beneath a white tent, setting aside an empty chair and a black-shrouded table for the fallen. On the table was a lemon, for the bitter memory of loss. Salt, for dried tears. An overturned wine glass, for toasts no longer shared. And a rose, for love." - Washington Post

I couldn't help but cry. At his wedding, this man is so torn from what has happened to him that he has to physically manifest it for everyone. Healthier than most returning veterans approaches; however, to know that all the loss is in the name of the Christian Coalition makes it infinitely more sad. The fact that there are soldiers whose views post-war are that we need to keep fighting, otherwise all of their friends have died in vain, is horrific when juxtaposed with the reality of this war: it cannot be won and isn't actually doing anything but exponentially increasing the death rate day by day. We're not fighting on lines, we're fighting a faceless enemy - or perhaps I should say, anonymous enemy, one that could be in any woman, man, or child approaching an armed vehicle, you try to make the fucking decision - that has an objective exactly the same as ours: keep fighting until the "enemy" is eliminated. There is no considerable peace process, there are no consolations to be made, no points to debate and no points of view to discuss. After all, "we don't negotiate with terrorists". 100,000+ lives lost because we don't want to give in. (I suddenly realize how stupid my current practice of not participating in affairs that I don't want to give the impression I've "given in on" is. At least I'm learning.)

These kids are coming back all kinds of fucked up. Yep, it happens with every war, but also every fight is different - this one leaving people with no reason to trust the world ever again. Being in constant combat and fear of sabotage will do that. There's no "safe zone", no base that doesn't get attacked at some point. Their government to whom they so loyally forfeited their lives is ignoring and abusing them, and sending them into unnecessary danger. (Humvee's without doors in an age of IED (roadside bomb) warfare? Nevermind the forty year old flak vests some are wearing.) And now they have to come home and have funerals at their weddings.

"As the carnage mounted, President Bush called Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to reassure the Iraqi leader of his support and assure him he was under no time pressure from the United States to curb sectarian violence." W Post

In English: "Yeah, don't worry. There's definitely a bunch more expendable lives over there, it doesn't really matter when you stop all of this, just, you know, make sure it happens so that I look good. "

Subject:As X personalized items increases, y distance from reality also increases
Time:06:20 pm
I have a theory:

The more personalized the items in our life can become, the more disconnected we are from a universal reality.

Why: If you and I have the same IBM laptops, we can talk about our IBMs and be referring to the same experience, but if you and I have the same IBM laptops (same model, same specs, same internal components) but we have customized X items on it (where X is increasing, remember?), we are no longer talking about the same experience.

Thoughts? It's just an infant idea, really, but I needed to note it somewhere so that I wouldn't forget and I wanted to collect others thoughts. I'm sure it's vague and I'll have to answer lots of questions.
